In my experience designing for apps there are key things you should know before you commission:

• Simple is best, too much functionality can overload a user giving them a bad experience leading them to ditch your product or worse write a bad review.
• Who is your app for e.g. young professionals, sport players, restaurants in the UK?
• Cost in how many devices you want to cater for will it be desktop based, web based, mobile based, tablet based, will it just be for iPhone, Android, Windows - don't worry chat this through with me if you're not sure.
